Tape Bike
Any a soloution for flat tires besides slim, plastic tape around the bike?
I live in a area with lots thorns on the street and mostly on the side walk which is frustrating. Everytime i take the bike out it ends up flat. The slim itsn't so good and the plastic tape for the bike it works good for two mouths i guess that my best option so far.
My best answer is a product called "Tuffy" - tire liner and you should be able to get it at any bike store. Ask your local bike shop if they carry it. Have them give you more info then what I get you here and if they don't carry it, ask if they can order it for you.
What it is...
It's an inset in your tires that goes between the tube and the inside of the tire. Its a polymer or hardened plastic that will last you for years protecting you from flats. Ive got it in all my bike tires ( I own 4 different bikes - 2 road cycle and 2 mountain bikes ) because I also live in an area w/ what we call "goat heads" - 2 to 3 pronged thorns that blend in w/ the color of the concrete and dry dirt. It adds to the protection of the tube so you don't get flats. Depending on what bike you use, research Kevlar tires. Kevlar is the same material used in bullet proof vests ( your standard body armor ). It will "harden" your tires and make them more resistant to flats.
If you've got thorns around your house that pop your tires as your taking your bike out of the garage, take some time and find the weeds that produce those dreaded thorns and pull them up so they no longer exist.
Lastly is some common sense. If your riding in areas w/ thorns and your tires keep getting flats - stop riding in those areas. 
Carry your bike out of your garage to the sidewalk to begin riding.
Stop riding on the sidewalk and ride in the street a little. Just be very careful w/ any cars! Follow standard rules of the road. At least till you know your in an area where there are no more thorns on the sidewalks.
Plainly, flats WILL happen if you have tubes that hold air. The only other way to permanently stop flats is to buy solid rubber tires, but you don' t want those because they give a very rough and unforgiving ride. Air filled tires give some cushion, albeit minor, to bumps in the road and give a smoother, more pleasurable and forgiving ride.
