quill stem on my bike is stuck - tips on how to get out so I can swap stems?
I wanted to share the bars and stem from a another bike, so I'm trying to delete the old one. it is a sheath of the stem. I tried to loosen the hex wrench appropriate size, but literally can not move and do not want to damage anything. an idea of what the problem might be or how I can get out? is not that the rod is stuck in the head tube once it is loose, but I can not loosen with the wrench first. Increase of power, your options are: Ammonia <WD40 liquid <Key <PB Blaster liquid wrench will work in all but the worst case. Invert your bike and to stabilize it. Yank the front wheel of way. Stabilize the bike, it is best to leave to work for LW 24 the first time, and you do not want your bike down in the process. Place a disposable container or tub beneath the shaft to collect LW that can leak. If the threads of the bolt and the hold were given a good soak, you should be able to loosen the bolt holding. You may be able to remove the bolt, but the rod itself may be another disaster together. There are good chances that the rod is fixed in the steerer tube as well. That is why I recommended a minimum of 24 hours soaking first. If you have more time to soak longer. You'll have a better chance to remove the rod if you have more time. I hope you will not need to resort to more powerful concoctions such as PB Blaster. If you are able to remove everything (and I hope you are), take the necessary measures to ensure this does not happen again: Apply a generous amount of grease on the threads of the bolt, stem, and the corner. And check the condition of the grease periodically (humid or salty conditions = one year. Condtions = Two dry years.)
