Can auto brake pedals be lowered closer to the floor for the physically challenged?
I am physically challenged; and have tried hand accelerator and brake controls; and was not able to master them smoothly, while driving with one hand on the steering wheel. Can the brake pedals on an auto be lowered closer to the floor, so that if I rest my foot on the floor, the brake pedal would be under the ball of my foot, and not under the toes of my foot? Mostly recent Chevrolet vehicles, and the like.
The adjustable pedals I have seen are designed to adjust forward and back. This does have the effect of bringing the pedal up off the floor. If you just lengthen the brake arm, the pedal is lower,but the pedal travel necessary to activate the brakes will be longer. I would suggest having someone just make the brake pedal pad area bigger by clamping or welding an extension on the existing pedal. Just make sure it does not touch the floor or otherwise interfere with brake actuation.
