Is it greener to buy a Toyota Corolla? Or buy a Toyota Prius?
I'm looking into buying a car that will take me to school and work. Currently I'm looking for 1998-2002 models of the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Prius 2nd generation. luxury accessories such as power windows, sunroof, leather seats ... etc. are not important to me. My goal is to have a means of personal transportation (other than my bike) that has the least adverse effects on our planet. Soon I will travel to another city and my bike will not be very practical (or legal) on a highway! If you have personal experience with the vehicle crossing, please help me and say what you think about your car! Or if you know a lot about two cars, your help is greatly appreciated as well! No car is completely safe for the planet, you can choose one that is not as bad as some. Toyota has a plan for all cars is component with a zero landfill. I think last year they met. Special plastics are bioplastics rather than petroleum. 2. The wiring is designed to fire when the car is at its end of life so that the metal will actually be recycled. 3. It is classified as a near zero emissions vehicle (from 2004). 4. Traction battery (big battery) is completely recyclable and less toxic components of a battery lead-acid. Toyota pays a premium of $ 200 on the battery (there is a phone number to call for recycling on the battery). The battery is designed to last the life of the car, like a transmission in an old car, if it's not like you call this number. I have a 2001 and a 2004 Prius. They been exceptionally reliable car, fun to drive and easy to maintain. The 2004 is now 100.000 miles on it and had a lifetime average (as indicated in my log book) of 56 mpg. After six years, I always look forward to the morning commute. I drove a Corolla and on my way, and we it is found about half of my mpg Prius gets (YMMV). He also feels a bit cramped) and has no close Cargo room (the Corolla is a compact car, the Prius a mid-size). The Prius will carry four adults or large you can put your bike in the back, without taking the front wheel. Corolla more than you mention are not as clean as the most recent, and the Prius is even better.
